FAQ

Interview prep FAQs

What is the STAR method?

STAR is a framework for answering behavioral interview questions: Situation (the context), Task (your goal), Action (what you specifically did), and Result (the measurable outcome). Strong answers spend most of their time on Action and Result.

How do I prepare for a behavioral interview?

Prepare six to eight STAR stories covering leadership, conflict, failure, and impact, each ending in a quantified result. Map them to the role's core competencies, then practice out loud — most candidates lose points on rambling, not on content.

What are the most common interview questions?

"Tell me about yourself," "Why this role and company," "Describe a challenge you overcame," "Tell me about a time you failed," and "Where do you see yourself" appear in nearly every interview, with role-specific technical questions layered on top.

How should I answer "Tell me about yourself"?

Give a 60–90 second present-past-future arc: what you do now, the key experience that built you, and why this role is the logical next step. It's a positioning pitch, not a life story.

How do I answer "What is your greatest weakness?"

Name a real, non-critical weakness, then show the concrete system you use to manage it and the progress you've made. Avoid clichés like "I'm a perfectionist," and never name a core requirement of the job.

Are these interview questions and answers free?

Yes. Every role's question bank is free to read with model STAR answers, and ApplyVita runs a free mock interview that scores your answers on the STAR rubric.

About this guide
The ApplyVita Career Team

The ApplyVita Career Team builds the resume-scoring and job-matching tools at the core of ApplyVita. Our guidance is grounded in the same four-component ATS rubric our product scores resumes on — content and impact, keyword match, formatting, and skills — and in current recruiter and hiring-manager practice. Every guide is checked against that rubric before it is published, and updated as hiring norms change.
