Biodata or resume — which does a sarkari application want?
This is the first thing to settle, because the two documents are not interchangeable and the wrong one gets you sent back to the queue. If the notification names the document, that is your answer — it overrides every rule below.
When it does not name one, the distinction that actually works is what the document is for. A biodata puts your facts on file: it leads with personal details, carries the full education table, and ends with a signed declaration. That is what a verification desk, a walk-in counter or a contractual appointment needs. A resume argues that you can do the job: duties, skills and outcomes, with the personal block reduced to what the format requires. That is what an interview board, an officer-grade panel or a specialist post needs.
In government formats the two overlap far more than they do in corporate hiring — both carry the passport photo, the personal-details block and the chronological education table from 10th onward, which is why so many candidates cannot tell them apart. Where you genuinely cannot tell, carry both to the verification desk. Nobody has ever been penalised for having the extra sheet.

The 7 rules of a government-job resume
- 1.Mirror your certificates exactly. Names, spellings, dates and percentages as printed — document verification is a matching exercise, and mismatches stall files.
- 2.Include the govt personal-details block. Passport photo, father's/mother's name, DOB, nationality, domicile, category (only if claiming) — expected here, unlike corporate resumes.
- 3.Education strictly chronological from 10th onward — board/university, year, percentage/CGPA for every level. No skipping.
- 4.Exam identity on top: exam name, roll/registration number, stage scores where relevant — panels file you by these.
- 5.Declare every gap honestly in one line ("2023: full-time exam preparation"). Verification finds hidden gaps; declared ones are routine.
- 6.End with a signed declaration — "I hereby declare that the above information is true…" with place, date, signature.
- 7.Keep a Hindi copy ready. Many offices and panels work in Hindi — an identical bilingual pair prevents delays.
