What makes a resume ATS-friendly?
An ATS-friendly resume uses a single-column layout, standard section headings (Experience, Education, Skills), no tables, text boxes, images, or header/footer text, a standard font, and the exact keywords from the job description. Anything an applicant tracking system can't parse gets dropped before a recruiter ever sees it.
How long should a resume be?
One page for under roughly 10 years of experience, two pages for senior or leadership roles. Recruiters spend about 6–7 seconds on the first scan, so every line has to earn its place with a specific, quantified result.
How many bullet points should each job have?
Three to six bullets per role, front-loaded with your most impressive, quantified achievements. Lead with the outcome ("cut load time 40%") rather than the task ("responsible for performance").
Should I tailor my resume to each job?
Yes. Mirroring the job description's keywords and prioritizing your most relevant experience is the single biggest lever on both your ATS score and your interview rate. A generic resume scores far lower than a tailored one.
What is the difference between a resume and a CV?
A resume is a one-to-two-page targeted summary used for most jobs; a CV (curriculum vitae) is a longer, comprehensive academic record used for research and academic roles. In India and the UK the two terms are often used interchangeably for everyday job applications.
Are these resume examples free to use?
Yes. Every resume example here is free to read and model. You can also score your own resume against the same four-part ATS rubric for free — no signup needed to see your score.
The ApplyVita Career Team builds the resume-scoring and job-matching tools at the core of ApplyVita. Our guidance is grounded in the same four-component ATS rubric our product scores resumes on — content and impact, keyword match, formatting, and skills — and in current recruiter and hiring-manager practice. Every guide is checked against that rubric before it is published, and updated as hiring norms change.
