How to increase your Naukri ATS score: 10 fixes ranked by impact (2026)

From headline keywords to the re-upload trick — the exact changes that move a Naukri resume from the 60s to 85+, in the order you should make them.

Fix the parser first — or nothing else counts

If your score is below 60, stop optimizing words. Your resume is failing at the machine-reading stage.

The Notepad test: copy your entire resume PDF and paste it into Notepad. If sections appear out of order, text is missing, or your skills turned into gibberish — that's exactly what Naukri's parser sees.

The fix: single-column layout, standard fonts, no tables, no text boxes, no icons, contact details in the body (never in a header/footer). Boring survives. Beautiful gets filtered.

Rewrite your headline like a search result

Your Naukri headline is the single highest-weight keyword field. Recruiters search terms; the headline is where Naukri looks first.

Weak: 'Hardworking finance professional seeking challenging opportunities.'

Strong: 'Senior Accountant | GST Filing | Tally ERP 9 | SAP FICO | 6 yrs'.

Formula: role + 3–4 searchable skills + years. No adjectives, no aspirations — those are invisible to search.

Mirror the exact keywords from 3–4 target JDs

Open three or four job descriptions you actually want. Highlight every skill term they repeat — tools, certifications, methods. That list of 8–12 terms is your keyword set.

Now weave each term into your Key Skills field and at least one experience bullet, spelled exactly as the JD spells it ('Google Ads', not 'AdWords'; 'GST compliance', not 'taxation work'). Parsers match strings, not synonyms.

Don't stuff — one natural use in a real sentence beats five keyword-list repetitions, and modern scorers penalize stuffing.

Turn duty bullets into outcome bullets

Content quality is the heaviest-weighted component of a modern ATS score — and the biggest gap between 70 and 85.

Duty bullet: 'Responsible for monthly reconciliation.'

Outcome bullet: 'Automated monthly reconciliation for 14 accounts, cutting closing time from 6 days to 2.'

Formula: action verb + what + scope + measured result. Estimate honestly when you lack exact numbers — '₹2+ Cr monthly billing handled' is credible and specific.

Use standard section names

Parsers map sections by their headings. 'Experience', 'Education', 'Skills', 'Projects', 'Certifications' — these map perfectly.

'My Journey', 'What I Bring', 'Toolbox' — these get dropped, and everything under them disappears from your parsed profile. Creativity belongs inside the bullets, not in the section names.

Fill the fields the parser can't infer

On Naukri specifically, completeness is a ranking signal. Fill every field the platform offers: notice period, current/expected CTC ranges (recruiter filters!), preferred locations, industry, functional area.

A 90-scoring resume with an empty notice-period field still loses to filtered searches it never appears in.

The re-upload trick: recency is a ranking signal

Recruiters overwhelmingly filter by 'active in last 30 days'. Naukri boosts recently-updated profiles.

So make it a habit: every 2–3 weeks, re-upload your (improved) resume, touch your headline, and save your profile. Five minutes of activity keeps you inside the freshness window that most searches are restricted to.

Tailor per application — the 15-minute habit that wins offers

A generic 82-score resume loses to an 88 tailored one, every time. For roles you seriously want: paste the JD into a tailoring tool, let it rewrite your summary and bullets around that JD's keywords, and apply with the tailored version.

ApplyVita's Tailor-to-JD does this in one click and shows a live match score — the difference between 'applied on Naukri' and 'shortlisted from Naukri' is usually exactly this step.

Check, fix, re-check: the 1-hour loop

1. Scan your resume free (30 seconds — no signup). 2. Read the component breakdown: content, keywords, formatting, skills. 3. Fix the single worst component first. 4. Re-scan. Repeat.

Most users gain 15–25 points in their first hour. When the score crosses 85: download the clean PDF + DOCX (₹299 one-time via UPI — no subscription), re-upload to Naukri, and refresh your headline the same day so the recency boost lands on the improved resume.

What NOT to do

Don't paste invisible white-text keywords — modern parsers detect it and some recruiters blacklist for it.

Don't buy 'ATS-proof' Canva templates — most fail the Notepad test spectacularly.

Don't keep applying with a sub-70 resume hoping volume wins. Forty invisible applications teach the algorithm nothing and cost you forty opportunities. Fix the resume once, then apply.
