Do I need a resume for SSB?

No. There is no resume in the defence-officer selection pipeline; the PIQ replaces it. What is worth preparing in advance is a PIQ prep sheet for yourself — the facts, dates, levels and specifics you will need to write accurately under time pressure on Day 1.

Should I mention previous SSB attempts?

Yes, and accurately. Attempts and their outcomes are asked for on the PIQ and are checked at verification. A suppressed attempt discovered later is a far bigger problem than a screened-out attempt honestly declared.

How specific should hobbies and sports be on the PIQ?

Specific and true. Name the sport, the level you actually played at, and the years. Assessors probe: your position, the rules, your last match. A short honest list read confidently outperforms a long list you cannot defend.

The SSB format rules

1.The PIQ is a fixed printed form, not a resume — and it is the closest thing to a resume in the entire defence-officer pipeline. You fill it in your own handwriting, on the spot, after screening.
2.Every line becomes a question thread. Family occupations, school medium and board, whether you were a day scholar or boarder, games played and at what level, positions held, hobbies — the Interviewing Officer works down the form.
3.Be exact about level. 'Participated in district football' and 'represented the district' are different claims and are treated differently; overstating is the fastest way to lose credibility in the interview.
4.Only write a game you can discuss — rules, your position, the last match you played. The same applies to hobbies. The PIQ punishes padding harder than it punishes a short honest list.
5.Fill it cleanly: no overwriting, no blanks, no 'NA' where an honest short answer exists. It is a handwritten document read by an assessor trained to read handwriting-level care.
6.Carry the Day-1 document set in originals plus photocopies: matric certificate as date-of-birth proof, graduation documents where applicable, ID, call-up letter and passport photos.
