India Post GDS (Gramin Dak Sevak · BPM · ABPM)
— Why a Resume Changes Nothing
GDS has no written exam and no interview. The merit list is generated from your class-10 marks alone, carried to four decimal places. Here is what actually decides selection — and what your document file should contain.
Where your resume actually matters in GDS recruitment
- ✓Nowhere in selection — and knowing that saves you weeks (see below)
- ✓Document verification at the divisional office, where a one-page cover sheet keeps your file in order
- ✓Nothing else: there is no written exam and no interview for GDS
The GDS format rules
- 1.Read this first: GDS selection has no exam and no interview. The merit list is generated by the system from your class-10 marks alone, converted to a percentage carried to four decimal places. No resume, however good, moves it by a single decimal.
- 2.Because of that, the highest-value work is not writing — it is entering your class-10 marks with absolute accuracy. A transcription error in the marks field is, in effect, your entire application.
- 3.If your board issues grades rather than marks, apply exactly the conversion the notification prescribes. Inventing your own conversion is the most common self-inflicted rejection.
- 4.Basic computer knowledge and knowledge of cycling are stated eligibility conditions. Carry whatever evidence you have for the computer requirement in the format the notification specifies for your circle.
- 5.The only document that is genuinely worth preparing is a one-page DV cover sheet: your registration number, the marks exactly as printed, and an index of what is in your file. It speeds verification; it does not influence selection.
- 6.DV at the divisional office expects the class-10 marksheet and certificate, photo ID, category certificate where claimed, and passport photographs — originals plus self-attested copies.
- 7.Ignore any service selling a 'GDS resume' that promises better chances. There is no mechanism through which it could work, and the honest answer is worth more to you than a template.

GDS resume — common questions
Is a resume required for India Post GDS?+
No. GDS has no written exam and no interview — the merit list is system-generated from your class-10 marks alone. A resume cannot change your rank. The only document worth preparing is a one-page document-verification cover sheet that keeps your file in order at the divisional office.
How is the GDS merit list prepared?+
From class-10 marks, converted to a percentage and carried to four decimal places so that ties are broken numerically rather than subjectively. This is why entering your marks exactly as printed on the marksheet matters more than anything else in the application.
What documents are needed at GDS document verification?+
Your class-10 marksheet and passing certificate, photo identity proof, the category certificate if you claimed a relaxation, and passport photographs — originals with self-attested copies. Candidates on the merit list are informed by SMS and email and called to the divisional office.
Do computer and cycling requirements need certificates?+
Basic computer knowledge and knowledge of cycling are stated eligibility conditions for GDS. The evidence expected for the computer requirement is specified per notification and can vary by circle, so follow your own circle's notification rather than a general rule.
