Naukri: the search that finds you is documented — in public

Naukri is not really an applicant tracking system, and treating it as one is the mistake. It is a job board sitting on top of a resume database that recruiters search. Naukri documents that search form publicly for recruiters — which means you can read it backwards and learn precisely which fields decide whether you appear.

Short answer

Naukri is a job board and a searchable candidate database called Resdex rather than a conventional applicant tracking system, and Info Edge sells a separate ATS product, Zwayam, under its Naukri Talent Cloud umbrella. You can apply without registering, but Naukri documents that your profile is what the recruiter sees and shortlists from. The mechanism that matters most is recruiter search: Naukri documents Any, All and Exclude keyword logic plus boolean AND, OR and NOT over your profile, states that recruiters search on criteria such as skills, education, years of experience and employment, and documents experience and CTC as mandatory filters when recruiters contact candidates in bulk. Profile recency is a first-class search axis — recruiters can filter to new registrations and by last active date, and Naukri states outright that recruiters often contact only candidates who have recently updated their profiles.

Naukri is the default hiring channel in India, used by employers of every size from staffing consultancies to the largest technology services companies. Naukri states that over three lakh recruiters access its jobseeker database. For most Indian job seekers it is not one system among several — it is the system, which is why the profile deserves more care than any individual application.

How to tell a company is using Naukri

You almost never have to guess. Most employers host the application on the vendor's own domain, so the URL in your address bar names the system outright.

naukri.com job listing with an Apply button

A native Naukri posting: you apply with your Naukri profile, in one click if you are registered.

naukri.com listing with 'Apply on Company Website'

A crucial distinction Naukri documents itself. These are jobs Naukri aggregates from across the internet, marked with a globe icon, and you cannot apply with your Naukri profile — you are taken to the company's own career page, which will be running one of the other systems in this family. Naukri explicitly advises using discretion when sharing information on non-Naukri sites.

careers.<employer>.com powered by Zwayam

Info Edge's ATS product runs employer career sites on fully custom domains with no vendor name in the hostname — Info Edge's own careers site is a live example. So a Zwayam-powered application can look entirely like the employer's own, and the vendor is effectively invisible.

Other giveaways

What applying through Naukri actually looks like

  1. 1

You can apply without registering, but Naukri discourages it

Naukri documents that you can apply to jobs without registering, while recommending you register first so you avoid filling a long application form every time and can apply in a single click. Applying and creating a profile are both documented as free of charge.

  2. 2

Your profile — not a resume you attach — is what the recruiter reads

This is the single most important sentence on the page. Naukri documents the flow as creating a profile, filling in its details, and then applying with it, stating plainly that these details will be shown to the recruiter when you apply and that the recruiter may shortlist you based on them. Attaching a good CV to a thin profile is the wrong way round here.

  3. 3

Some applications add an employer questionnaire

Naukri documents that if the recruiter needs extra information before accepting your application, a questionnaire is displayed, and that you must complete it for your application to be successful. This appears three times across Naukri's apply documentation, so treat an unfinished questionnaire as an unfinished application.

  4. 4

There are hard quotas, and no second attempts

Naukri documents a maximum of fifty job applications per day, up to five at a time, and states that you can apply to a given job only once from your account — including when applying without registration. Spraying applications is not a strategy this platform supports.

  5. 5

You get a genuinely detailed status ladder

Naukri documents statuses including applied, application sent, application viewed, resume viewed, shortlisted, not shortlisted, contacted by email and job closed, with CV downloaded appearing in a second published list. Very few systems in this family tell you that your resume was actually opened.

How Naukri reads your resume file

Each claim below is labelled. Vendor-documented means Info Edge (India) Limited publishes it in its own help or product documentation — the sources are linked at the foot of this page. Not vendor-documented means it is consistently reported by applicants and recruiters but the vendor does not state it, so treat it as a sensible precaution rather than a rule.

2 MB, and four formats

Vendor-documented

Naukri's guidance for uploading a CV to your profile tells you to reduce the document to less than 2 MB and to try switching between pdf, rtf, word doc or word docx to find the smallest. That 2 MB ceiling is among the tightest in this family — a quarter of Greenhouse's parse limit and a fifth of Keka's.

Naukri tells you to remove photos from the CV

Vendor-documented

Unusually practical vendor guidance, and worth following. Naukri says that if you have added a photo or other pictures to your CV, try removing them, noting that you can attach a photo to your Naukri profile separately. It also suggests that a file which cannot be reduced below 2 MB may be corrupted and should be converted to another format and re-uploaded.

Naukri does not claim your CV fills in your profile

Not vendor-documented

We want to be careful here, because it would be easy to assume otherwise. Naukri documents uploading a CV to your profile, and separately documents completing profile fields — but we could find no Naukri statement that an uploaded CV auto-populates the profile fields. Treat profile completion as manual work you must do, because the profile is what recruiters search.

No parsing engine is named and no extracted-field list is published

Not vendor-documented

We checked Naukri's jobseeker help pages and found neither. Naukri does run a separate resume-scoring tool that states it uses more than twenty-five parameters and benchmarks against other job seekers, with the same 2 MB limit — but it does not publish what those parameters are, so we cannot tell you what it measures.

Zwayam-powered career sites enforce their own, tighter rules

Not vendor-documented

If you are redirected to an Info Edge Zwayam career site, the constraints change. Observed live in August 2026, its application form accepted only .pdf, .doc, .docx and .txt with a limit of 2 MB or less, and made the resume upload mandatory. Its careers listing page also offers a reverse flow — upload a CV and be matched to open roles — stating the same 2 MB limit.

Resume formatting rules that matter for Naukri

Generic "ATS-friendly" advice is mostly one-size-fits-none. These are the choices that change what Naukri specifically does with your file.

Treat Key Skills as the most important field on the platform.

Naukri defines key skills as the set of skills acquired through education, training, work or life experience, and notes these are variously known as skills, keywords or specialties elsewhere. Recruiter keyword search runs over your profile, so a skill missing from that field is a search you cannot win.

Update your profile regularly — recency is a documented search axis.

This is not motivational advice, it is mechanical. Naukri documents recruiters filtering by new registrations with results appearing based on the last active date, and offers recruiters search alerts about newly added and modified CVs. Naukri states directly that recruiters often contact only candidates who have recently updated their profiles.

Fill in experience and expected CTC honestly and completely.

Naukri documents experience and CTC as mandatory filters when recruiters send bulk mail to candidates, and warns recruiters that mismatches between their search filters and their mailer filters cause candidates to be missed. A blank or unrealistic value can remove you from outreach entirely.

Write the Resume Headline as a real summary.

Naukri calls it usually the first thing a recruiter notices about your profile and asks that it give an overview of your profile and career preferences, offering an example in the form of a graduate seeking a specific role in a specific industry. It is a short field with disproportionate visibility.

Complete every field, including the photo.

Naukri documents that each profile field carries a percentage weight toward completeness, and publishes a specific claim that recruiters are forty per cent more likely to contact profiles with a photo than profiles without one. That is the vendor's own number about its own platform.

Use the fresher conventions if you are one.

Naukri publishes them explicitly: set current designation and current employer to Not Applicable, choose Fresher rather than Experienced for work experience, and select Fresher or Trainee as the functional area. Following the platform's own conventions is what puts you in the filters recruiters actually use.

Keep the CV under 2 MB and strip images out of it.

Both are Naukri's own instructions for the profile CV upload. The photo belongs on your profile as a profile photo, not embedded in the document where it inflates the file past the limit.

What screening really happens inside Naukri

Recruiter keyword search, with Naukri's own logic spelled out

Naukri publishes the semantics in its recruiter documentation. Any keyword returns resumes containing at least one of the terms; All keyword returns those containing all of them; Exclude keyword removes resumes containing any of the listed terms. Its own worked example combines a set of job titles with Any, a set of functional terms with All, and a set of industries with Exclude. Read that backwards and it tells you exactly how your profile is being matched.

Boolean search is explicitly supported

Naukri documents boolean search combining keywords with AND, NOT and OR, giving examples such as a role term AND a specialism, or a role term NOT an adjacent function. The practical consequence is that a recruiter can deliberately exclude you on a single term appearing anywhere in your profile.

The structured filters that decide whether you appear

Naukri states, in its candidate-facing help, that recruiters search the database for candidates meeting criteria such as skills, education, years of experience and employment, and that if your profile meets these criteria it will appear in the search result. Its recruiter documentation adds total experience as a numeric range, graduation year as an alternative for freshers, location with a free-text fallback, and a filter for women candidates.

Recruiter contact is rate-limited and CV access is audited

Useful context for interpreting silence. Naukri documents that a recruiter cannot send the same email to a job seeker more than once in seven days, nor more than two different emails in seven days. It also documents CV access as quota-limited and logged, with viewing a CV, downloading it, clicking to view a phone number and exporting all counting as access.

Nothing here rejects you automatically

Worth stating clearly given how much of this family does document automatic rejection. Naukri documents shortlisted and not shortlisted as statuses a recruiter marks — human actions — and documents employer questionnaires attached to applications. We found no documented automatic knockout on Naukri itself. On the Zwayam side, its marketing says AI ranks applications and conducts automated screening calls and that only best-fit profiles move forward, but it never states automatic rejection, and we are not going to upgrade that phrasing into one.

Naukri openly sells higher search ranking

This is unusual enough to state plainly, and Naukri is admirably blunt about it. Its paid Resume Display product markets a Featured tag, a higher rank when recruiters search CVs, automatic profile refresh to boost visibility, and a comparison stating that a free profile competes with the entire database while a paid one competes with a far smaller pool. Its Priority Applicant product highlights the application instead. Both carry Naukri's own disclaimer that it does not guarantee interview calls or assure job offers — which is the honest counterweight, and also Naukri's own text.

Naukri myths worth dropping

The claim

Naukri is an ATS like Workday or Taleo.

What holds up

It is not, and the difference changes your strategy. Naukri is a job board plus a searchable resume database, and its own recruiter help centre covers only account management, job posting and Resdex — there is no ATS topic. Info Edge does sell an actual ATS, Zwayam, but that is a separate product on its own domain. On Naukri, being found matters at least as much as applying.

The claim

Naukri RMS is Naukri's applicant tracking system.

What holds up

There is no live product by that name. The naukrirms.com site returns a server error, and Naukri's current recruiter offering is grouped under the Naukri Talent Cloud umbrella with Zwayam as the hiring-automation product. Pages still describing Naukri RMS as a current ATS are describing something that is no longer there.

The claim

Keeping your profile private just hides you from spam.

What holds up

It does considerably more than that, and the setting is not where you would expect. Naukri documents that making your profile invisible is done by setting communication from recruiters to No Email — an email preference — and that recruiters will then be unable to find your profile in the database at all. You can still search and apply. If you have ever set that to reduce email, you may have removed yourself from recruiter search without realising it.

The claim

Uploading a better CV will fix a weak Naukri profile.

What holds up

It will not, because the search runs on the profile. Naukri documents that the profile details are what the recruiter sees when you apply and what shortlisting is based on, and describes recruiters searching on skills, education, experience and employment. The CV matters once someone opens it — the profile decides whether anyone does.

The claim

Applying to more jobs is the way to get noticed.

What holds up

Naukri caps you at fifty applications a day and one application per job, with no reapplying. Meanwhile it documents recency as a live search axis and states recruiters often contact only recently updated profiles. Updating the profile is a better use of an hour than fifty more applications.

Naukri ATS — common questions

Not really, and that is the most useful thing to understand about it. Naukri is a job board with a searchable resume database, Resdex. Its own recruiter help centre has exactly three topics — account management, job posting and Resdex — with no ATS among them. Info Edge sells a separate ATS product, Zwayam, under its Naukri Talent Cloud umbrella.
