Resume Guides
Every format and section guide in one place — global conventions by country, plus India-specific resume components recruiters actually ask for.
A US resume is a 1–2 page, reverse-chronological marketing document with no photo, no personal details (age, marital status, nationality), and quantified achievement bullets. Under 5 years of experience: one page. 5–15 years: two pages max. Use standard section headings (Summary, Experience, Education, Skills) in a single column so ATS parsers like Greenhouse and Workday read it cleanly.
A UK CV is typically two pages, reverse-chronological, with no photo, date of birth or marital status (Equality Act). Lead with a 3–4 line personal profile, then core skills, career history with quantified bullets, and education. Use 'CV' not 'resume' in UK job applications. Single-column layout for Workday, Taleo and Oleeo parsers.
A Canadian resume is 1–2 pages, reverse-chronological, with no photo, no age or marital status, and no reference list on the document itself. Include city + province, a 2–3 line summary, quantified experience, education, and skills matched to the posting. French-English bilingual roles: note language proficiency with CEFR levels (e.g. French: professional working proficiency).
An Australian resume is 2–3 pages for experienced candidates (1–2 for graduates), with no photo, no date of birth, and achievement-focused bullets. Public-sector and large corporate roles often require a separate selection-criteria document addressing each criterion with STAR examples — the resume itself stays a reverse-chronological summary. Optimize for SEEK, Workday and PageUp parsers.
To convert an Indian resume to US format: remove photo, father's name, full address, 10th/12th marks, declaration line and marital status; compress education to degree + university + year; expand experience bullets with US-style metrics (%, $, time saved); rename 'Curriculum Vitae' to 'Resume'; keep to 1–2 pages in a single-column ATS layout. Lead with impact, not exam scores.
A resume declaration is a one-line statement at the bottom confirming the information is true — typically: "I hereby declare that the above information is true and correct to the best of my knowledge." Include it for government, teaching, bank and traditional Indian employers; skip it for IT, MNC and ATS-driven corporate applications.
A resume objective is a 1–2 line statement at the top stating your target role and strongest proof. In 2026, use it only if you are a fresher or career-switcher; experienced candidates should use a professional summary with quantified outcomes instead. Never write generic objectives like "seeking a challenging role in a reputed organization."
List 8–12 skills on your resume: 6–8 hard skills (tools, languages, methods) matching the job description exactly, plus 2–4 soft skills only if backed by a bullet. Put skills in a dedicated section and repeat the top 3 in your summary and experience bullets — ATS systems match strings, not synonyms.
List 2–3 hobbies on your resume only when they signal relevant skills or cultural fit — e.g. marathon running (discipline), open-source contributions (coding), debate club (communication). Skip generic hobbies (reading, music, travelling) unless space is abundant; never list hobbies on a one-page IT resume where projects matter more.
A profile summary is 2–3 lines at the top of your resume stating your role, years of experience, top 2–3 quantified achievements, and target lane. Formula: [Role] + [years] + [biggest number] + [target]. Freshers substitute projects and CGPA for years.
