The National Qualifier Test is the front door to TCS's fresher hiring: a proctored aptitude-and-coding test whose score, not your resume, decides whether you enter the interview pool. That inverts the usual order — the resume is read AFTER you clear the cutoff, by interviewers deciding what to probe.
That is exactly why the resume still matters: at the interview stage panels work from what you claimed. An NQT-stage resume is a promise list for the technical interview — every project and skill on it is a question you have invited.
Eligibility — the shape, not this cycle's numbers
- Open to graduating students and recent graduates of eligible degree streams — the eligible-degrees list and passing-year window are redefined each cycle.
- Academic-minimum criteria (percentage/CGPA thresholds and backlog policy) apply at registration and are re-checked at document verification.
- One profile per candidate on the NextStep portal — duplicate registrations create verification problems later.

How TCS NQT actually selects
- 1Registration (NextStep portal)
You create the application profile that TCS treats as the master record — the resume you upload and the form fields must agree.
Resume angle: Mismatches between portal fields and resume dates are a standard document-verification rejection.
- 2NQT (aptitude + reasoning + coding)
A proctored online test. Your score places you in a band that determines which interview track you can be considered for.
Resume angle: No resume screening here — but the projects you list are what interviewers pick from if you clear it.
- 3Technical + managerial + HR interviews
Panels interview from your uploaded resume, probing projects, internships and the skills you named.
Resume angle: Every listed skill is fair game. A framework you used once in a tutorial does not belong on this resume.
- 4Document verification
Marksheets, ID and the claims on your application are checked line by line before an offer is released.
Resume rules specific to TCS NQT
- One page. TCS processes lakhs of fresher applications; a second page is unread.
- Education table first — degree, institute, board percentages/CGPA exactly as the marksheets state them. This is verified, so rounding up is a rejection, not an embellishment.
- Two or three projects maximum, each with the stack named and YOUR role separated from the team's — panels routinely ask 'which part did you build?'
- List only languages and tools you can be interviewed on. The NQT coding section already proved you can code; the resume decides what they grill you on.
- Match the resume's personal details (name spelling, DOB) to your ID documents — verification compares them.
- Skip the objective paragraph; use that line for a certification or a real achievement instead.
